Welcome to the Christian Science Society, Moscow, Idaho!
We are a branch of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston.
Founded by Mary Baker Eddy in 1879, its purpose is "to reinstate
primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing." Our church is
one among thousands dedicated to this purpose, located in
approximately 75 countries around the world.
Our concept of Church
"God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord
of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands... "
(Acts 17:24)
"...ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell
in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be
my people." (II Corinthians 6:16)
"Church: The structure of Truth and Love...that institution, which
affords proof of its utility and is found elevating the race, rousing
the dormant understanding from material beliefs to the apprehension of
spiritual ideas ...casting out devils, or error, and healing the sick."
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures)
Our tenets
"As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired word of the Bible as our
sufficient guide to eternal life. We acknowledge and admire one supreme
and infinite God. We acknowledge His Son, one Christ; the Holy Ghost or
divine Comforter; and man in God's image and likeness. We acknowledge
God's forgiveness of sin in the destruction of sin and the spiritual
understanding that casts out evil as unreal. But the belief in sin is
punished so long as the belief lasts." (Science and Health with Key to
the Scriptures)
Our Pastor
The Bible and the Christian Science textbook (Science and Health with
Key to the Scriptures) serve as our Pastor, rather than an individual.
Each week of the year, a main subject is designated for daily study,
consisting of selections from the Bible and correlative passages from
Science and Health. These reading constitute our Sunday sermon.
